ME

Passionate About Mentoring First Time Real Estate Investors

I was born in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1971. My family emigrated to Edmonton, Canada when I was 18 months old, eventually moving to Vancouver Island in 1975. After almost a decade on the west coast, we relocated to Quebec so my dad could go back to school, and then landed on the far east coast in the smallest province in Canada, Prince Edward Island. After graduating high school, I enrolled in the Business school at the University of Prince Edward Island, graduating several years later with a Bachelor of Business Administration. At that time, UPEI's Business school had a very high rating due to its small professor-to-student ratio. I loved that school, and am proud to be a UPEI alumni.

Eventually the west called my name again, and I ventured towards it, stopping in Calgary, Alberta for a few years. After securing a job as a marketing assistant in an investment real estate company, I moved to the acquisitions deaprtment a year later and learned my "trade" - sourcing, underwriting, analysing and purchasing multi-family real estate properties, to be converted to condominiums and re-sold as investment real estate. It was an exciting young company to work at, and most of my analytical skilset comes from that company's property purchasing.

In 2001, the draw to return to Vancouver Island was too strong, so I left my comfy job in Calgary and became a self-employed real estate consultant. After purchasing my own property with some friends in 2002, I started a new company with a partner in 2005 to purchase properties to be stratified and re-sold, similar to what I did in Calgary, but for our own account. I continue to do that today, although we now hold some properties for long-term growth, along with my pub on the ocean in Maple Bay. Since 1995 I've made good money and I've lost good money, learning the majority of my real estate education from those losses. I definitely know what NOT to do when buying properties, and it is that sort of experience that allows me to provide you with the advice you need to avoid the pitfalls that befell me. I look forward to working with you, either on an individual basis or over a life time!
